Dr. Daniel (Sok Woong) Han is a board-certified periodontist who has received high praise for his ever-growing, full-spectrum dental practice, Han & Ahn DMD, PC. Dr. Han's extensive dental implantology experience, from dental implant placement to bone/tissue grafting procedures, in McLean, VA, has earned him the reputation of being one of the best dental implant dentists in the area, as he performs a wide range of implant-related procedures.

The placement of dental implants usually involves two surgical procedures. After careful examination and diagnosis, implants are placed into the alveolar bone (jaw bone). Implant healing time may vary case by case, and depends on several factors: primary stability of the implant, hardness of bone, additional bone/tissue grafting procedures, and medical condition. In some cases, implants may be restored immediately after they are placed.

Dental Implants Will Keep You Smiling

  • They look, act and feel exactly like natural teeth
  • They are placed in the jaw bone for the most stable fit
  • They have a 95% success rate
  • They will never develop cavities
  • They are easier to clean than a prosthetic device
  • They support healthy jaw bone and a stable occlusion (bite)
In general, dental implants require three to six months of healing. During this healing time, dental implants integrate within the alveolar bone (osseointegration). Depending on the case, implants can heal with abutments (a metal piece above the gums) or with a coverscrew (a metal piece below the gums) during this phase.  It is safe to wear prefabricated temporary dentures, but patients should eat a soft diet.

After the implants have healed (osseointegrated), Dr. Han uncovers the implant and attaches a small healing abutment if a coverscrew was initially placed.  Usually, after two weeks, a final impression is taken and the final abutment and crown/bridge/fixed hybrid prosthesis can be designed. Implant impression requires a special attachment, called an impression post (coping). These posts/copings are attached to the implants before impressions are taken. Then, Dr. Han and his certified master technician can start fabricating the final abutment and prosthesis (crown/bridge/fixed hybrid prosthesis).
