How Does A Dental Implant Work?

A dental implant is a titanium post that is inserted into the jawbone to replace lost tooth roots. Next, an abutment is attached to each implant post, which will connect the implant to the crown, bridge, or denture.  Together, the implant, abutment, and restoration replace the tooth from root to crown.

How Safe  Are Dental Implants?

With a consistently high long-term success rate, dental implants are a true milestone in restorative dentistry. Like all surgeries, however, there is a certain degree of risk involved in the procedure. Risks of dental implant surgery include:

Implant Failure

When an implant does not properly fuse with the bone tissue, complications can occur. This can cause the implant to eventually become loose. We carefully assess candidacy and take technologically advanced measures to help patients avoid this complication.

Infection

As with any surgical procedure, implant placement involves a risk of infection. Our strict sterilization protocol and attention to detail allow Dr. Han to minimize the risk of infection.

Incorrect Placement

Improper or poorly planned placement can result in implants disturbing nerves or the sinus membranes. We use advanced surgical equipment and digital imaging systems to make certain that your implants are positioned in a way that will provide excellent stability without disrupting these tissues.

The Importance of Choosing  the Right Doctor

The single most effective way a patient can reduce the risk of dental implant complications is choosing a dentist with the right training, experience, and reputation.

Implantology is Dr. Han's area of expertise, so when you choose our McLean dentistry practice, you can rest assured that you are in good hands. In fact, Dr. Han teaches complex implant surgeries to postdoctoral residents as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania. Unlike other practitioners, Dr. Han performs every aspect of implant dentistry on-site, including preparatory procedures such as bone grafting and sinus lifts to the placement of implants.

His experience and knowledge in the fields of cosmetic and restorative dentistry has helped many patients experience a better quality of life. Dr. Han is proud to offer dental implants to patients in McLean and surrounding communities. Don't wait another day. Schedule a consultation at our practice online or by calling:

Dr. Daniel Han is simply the best if you need an implant done. Dr. Han walked me through the entire process and put me at ease.  I don't know of any other dentist that will take your original tooth and re-use it for the temporary tooth while the bone around the implant heals. No one could tell I had implant surgery done as it was my real tooth sitting in the spot where the implant went in!

Caring for Your New Smile

Once your final restorations are placed, you will need to maintain them just as you do the rest of your teeth. Brush twice and floss once daily to ensure your smile stays healthy. It remains important to attend biannual checkups with our dentists to ensure your long-term oral health. With proper care and regular checkups, dental implants can provide a lifetime of benefits.

Note that there are variations on the placement procedure. For example, a mini implant will not require an abutment, and may be able to support a permanent restoration right away. However, when undergoing the traditional procedure, you can expect:

Absolutely love everything about them. I had two implants with bone grafts put in on my front teeth. Dr. Han was able to give me temporary crowns while the graft and implants healed. The process from start to finish was easy. I'm in the process of getting two more implants put in my back teeth. Highly recommend.
