Bone & Tissue Grafting for Arlington

Dr. Daniel (Sok Woong) Han understands the loss of your natural teeth can profoundly affect the way you eat and speak. Your oral hygiene regimen, your appearance and your confidence are all impacted by tooth loss.  Implant supported prosthesis, such as crown, bridges, fixed hybrid prosthesis and overdentures are various treatment options to consider.  However, over a period of time alveolar bone resorbs away either after teeth are or damaged due to trauma.  When the alveolar bone is not adequate, bone grafting procedure is a great treatment option to regenerate the lost volume of the bone.  Once the bone has been regenerated, implants can be placed at their ideal position.

How Bone & Tissue Grafts Can Help You

  • Your lost bone is regenerated for ideal implant placement
  • Carefully grafted bone can preserve implant health
  • Gingival tissue graft covers your exposed root surface
  • Gingival tissue graft enhances esthetics

Dr. Daniel SW Han has the right training in complex dentistry for McLean, including bone grafting.  It is a noble procedure to regenerate the lost bone.  The regeneration of the lost bone makes sure that implants are optimally supported and function. This is integral to creating adequate alveolar bone regeneration prior to implant placements.  Patients in Arlington, Great Falls, Vienna, Falls Church, Oakton, Fairfax, Tyson’s corner and McLean can rely upon his expertise when it comes to bone grafting.

Sinus Augmentation

Alveolar bone loss can be due to traumatic extractions, periodontal (gum) disease, or other traumatic injuries.   Dr. Han uses either xenograft (different species) or allograft (same species).  When it is necessary, he uses a specially prepared barrier membrane to secure the bone graft.  This membrane is usually resorbed by its own.

In the maxillary posterior (upper back teeth area), sinus floor may be close to the alveolar bone and results in insufficient bone for replacing missing teeth with implants.  Dr. Han is an expert in regeneration of alveolar bone in the sinus so that you can enjoy implant supported prosthesis in the maxillary posterior area.  This is called ‘Sinus augmentation’.  Depending on cases, Dr. Han can perform both sinus augmentation and implant placements simultaneously.  This way, number of surgical appointments and healing time will be shortened.

Dr. Han can also regenerate lost bone around teeth due to periodontal disease.  In such cases, he surgically places bone to regenerate the lost bone.  It usually requires the special barrier membrane.  This is called ‘Guided Tissue Regeneration’.

When the loss of alveolar bone is severe, Dr. Han highly recommends to regenerate the lost bone first.  After it has healed (around 4-6 months), he then places implants.  This is called ‘Guided Bone Regeneration’.  It usually requires the special barrier membrane and some securing tags.

Dr. Han provides comprehensive dentistry for predictable bone grafting and implant placements in the McLean area for Great Falls, Oakton, Vienna, Falls Church, Fairfax, Arlington and Tysons corner, VA.
